The Best Of Earth Is In Perth

'The Best Of Earth Is In Perth'

Yesterday was the opening premiere of the local feature film 'Perth'.As you might have already guessed, the protagonist of the story is a bitter 51 year old Singaporean man who wants to migrate to (that's right) Perth. This film reminisce me of three years spent there while pursuing my degree. The picture above shows me with the backdrop of the magnificent view of the Swan River at Kings Park.Is it really worthwhile to migrate to Perth? To answer that question beyond a reasonable doubt requires a deep analysis of the pros and cons of both countries(Singapore vs West Aust), which I will not partake. Sometimes I do wonder if my kids would be better off (education and overall quality of life) if I stayed there permanently, never to return.I work in a school environment at the moment and I know how unforgiving the education system here is to children.Compare this to the idyllic lifestyle in Perth, with a slower pace of life with more emphasis placed on family, rather than on career.Add that to the fact you will never miss all things Singaporean there, as there is considerable Singaporean population abiding there with Singapore-styled food centres in abundance. Why,even the mee goreng is more delicious there than anywhere else in Singapore(although a bit pricey at 7 AUD dollars a plate). In conclusion,Perth can be described or imagined as a Singapore without tight political and media control, work related stress and disgraceful citizen behaviour. In place of all that, there is a liberal arts scene(i.e Mardi Gras),breathtaking scenery excellent for long drives,COE/ERP/ARF/PARF free(BMW Z3 for 80K),landed properties by the beach at similar prices to a 4-rm HDB apartment.Having said all these things,is it really any wonder that Harry Lee wants to migrate?
