Food Review:Ayam Penyet Ria
KFC,you've got a problem!!There is a new rave in town and its called Ayam Penyet Ria.Penyet means smashed or çrushed in Malay and images of chicken being steamrolled conjures in my mind as I make my way to Lucky Plaza, where the restaurant is situated.Upon reaching, I can see that the decor of the restaurant is quite inviting, with an elevated deck and Japanese style lantern lighting the interior. My wife and I ordered the house speciality, the Ayam Penyet with rice,a slice of tofu, tempe and vegetables. The chicken itself was very passable, crispy on the outside and tenderly juicy on the inside. The ''sambal terasi",a kind of sauce made with chilis specially imported from Indonesia was very savoury. To my surprise,my wife finds it quite hot but luckily she ordered a drink which can be described as diabetes-inducingly sweet.I would rate this dish quite highly as it would be a very good alternative to eating bland tasting fast food while in Orchard Road. The prices are cheap too, with a full meal costing about $6-7.One gripe to mention was the customer service,or the lack of it.Ayam Penyet Ria was initiated by the very young and enterprising Mr Edy Sugianto,a recent Poly graduate. The overwhelming response was something that even he didnt anticipate. After we left, we saw a long queue was forming outside the restaurant, which means a lot of hungry people needed to be fed.Maybe I can also start a food business to tap the huge market.Hmmm....
