Malaysia Is Our Playground.Singapore Is Our Town

In an age of instant gratification,I decided to do the opposite and take things slow and easy.I took the road rail less travelled. That's right,I took the KTMB train to KL instead of driving.I just wanted to let my mind wander while looking at lush greeneries instead of the highway tarmac,an activity I find therapeutic. My MP3 kept me entertained along my 7-hour journey.I gazed at the window while listening to music from the Gypsy Kings. The sound of the maracas and other flamenco percussions really went well with the motion of the train.

Mission in KL: To eat plenty of fluffy roti canai and spicy tomyam soup, running the risk of returning to Singapore looking like a beached-whale.

I really thank God for Malaysia,a place where we can escape the monotony of Singapore at a cheap price.Much have been said about this country.A strange, eclectic mix of new and retro things. The Malaysian paradox is that this country has first-world facilities(KLIA,MSC,KLCC) coupled with third-world administration.Dubious national ambitions(like sending astronauts to space to make teh-tarik,WTH!!!) and sadly, gross mismanagement(Proton,MAS).I,however, prefer to see the beauty of Malaysia.Somehow,I always see elegance in simplicity, grace in the backwaters.I cannot remember the last time I took the train. So what had changed in the KTMB train service for the past 10 years or so?Nothing. One more hour to go before I reach the KL Sentral, the sprawling new train station.I am starting to miss my wife and kids already(Forgot to mention earlier that I travelled without them.Hmmm...)

To be continued...............
