My Mind Goes To Strange Places Everytime I Read

Minister Dr Lee Boon Yang unveiled the IDA iN2015 IT Masterplan http://www.in2005.sg which among others hopes (my comments in brackets) :

to be No.1 in the world in harnessing infocomm to add value to the economy and society
(whoa..only if India and USA doesnt exist, innit? What would be the indices to measure this intangible benefit that is society?)

to realise a 2 – fold increase in the value-add of the infocomm industry to S$26 billion(impressive!)

to realise a 3 – fold increase in infocomm export revenue to S$60 billion(and to export what IT products besides MP3 players?)

to create 80,000 additional jobs (carrying and disposal of old PCs also considered IT-related jobs)

to achieve 90% home broadband usage(right now the cheapest/most decent speed broadband plan is about $38 per month. How low can the price dive in order to achieve this critical mass ?)

to achieve 100% computer ownership in homes with school-going children (If PCs can be as cheap as China brand TVs,surely why not?Unless I foresee a subsidised price for students)

Oh well.... forgive me for being so cynical...it's just that my workplace PCs are so slow and I am told we have no money to buy, although the good Minister says we have a budget roughly the size of Bill Gates' wallet.

Random thought about the new wireless broadband network that's supposed to cover all of Singapore - beyond the obvious idea of people tapping into the network to check e-mail, I think it would also be (geekily) cool if the always-on network was used by standalone devices. Such as a vending machine that sends e-mails back when it's out of Coke.Or my fridge e-mailing Cold Storage when its out of my favourite Magnum ice cream.

Should I plonk down all of my worldly savings now to satisfy my latest gadget lust, the Apple MacBook?I am dying to try out Delicious Library that only runs on a Mac.My best friend Mulyadi, who is a hardcore Mac whore/evangelist is just waiting to show me what this baby could do.

Meanwhile,on a totally unrelated note..

God Save The Queen..And may Beckham be delivered from all worldly diseases and pestilences.
100 years of colonial rule has made me an England supporter.

England may finally win the World Cup this year..if Beckham doesnt fall sick...that's what my crystal ball says
